Sunday of the Samaritan Woman and Mother’s Day Celebration
This past Sunday, our parish prayerfully gathered at Saint Vladimir’s Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral for the Divine Liturgy on the Sunday of the Samaritan Woman.

During the service, the faithful reflected on the beautiful Gospel account of Christ’s meeting with the Samaritan woman at Jacob’s well — a conversation through which the Lord revealed Himself as the Living Water and the Savior of the world. This Gospel reminds us that every human soul thirsts for truth, grace, and eternal life, which can only be fully found in God.
In his sermon, Father Ivan spoke about the spiritual meaning of this encounter and how the Samaritan woman’s life was completely transformed after meeting Christ. Though she came to the well seeking ordinary water, she received something far greater — the living water of faith and salvation. Her example teaches us that sincere repentance, openness of heart, and a true encounter with God can renew and change every person, no matter their past.
This joyful Sunday also coincided with Mother’s Day, giving our parish community another opportunity to offer gratitude and love. At the conclusion of the Divine Liturgy, Father Ivan warmly congratulated all mothers, grandmothers, and godmothers, thanking them for their sacrifices, care, prayers, and faithful dedication to their families. He reminded the faithful that the love of a mother is one of the greatest blessings granted by God and that the prayers of a mother carry immense spiritual strength.
Special prayers were offered for all mothers — both living and departed — asking the Lord to grant them health, peace, strength, and many blessed years. The parish community expressed sincere appreciation for the countless ways mothers nurture faith, preserve Christian values, and pass on love for the Church and family traditions to future generations. Their quiet daily labor and devotion often become the spiritual foundation upon which families are built.
Following the service, parishioners shared warm fellowship and joyful conversation as families gathered together in celebration. The day became a beautiful reminder of the importance of faith, family, gratitude, and Christian love within parish life. May the Lord continue to bless all mothers with His mercy and protection, and may the example of the Samaritan woman inspire all of us to seek Christ with sincere hearts and unwavering faith.
