Holy Week

Holy Week is the most profound and sacred period of the Church year, during which we remember the final days of the earthly life of our Lord Jesus Christ — His suffering, crucifixion, death, and burial.

Each day of this week carries deep spiritual meaning. Through the services of the Church, we witness the fullness of God’s love for humanity. Christ willingly accepts suffering, takes up the Cross, and offers Himself for the salvation of the world.
On Holy Thursday, we commemorate the Mystical Supper, when Christ established the Holy Eucharist. On Great and Holy Friday, the Church prayerfully reflects on the Crucifixion, and the bringing out of the Holy Shroud reminds us of His burial.
These days call us to silence, prayer, and repentance. It is a time to pause, to look within our hearts, and to realize the price of our salvation.
Holy Week prepares us for Pascha — for the encounter with the Risen Christ. Having walked the path of suffering with the Savior, we become able to truly experience the joy of His Resurrection.
