
Priest Ivan Symchyna
Rector of the St. Vladimir’s Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral
Father Ivan Symchyna was born on July 4, 1984, in the village of Bobovishe, Mukacheve district, Transcarpathian region of Ukraine, into a farming family.
In 1990, he began his studies at the comprehensive secondary school (grades I–III) in the village of Bobovishe, which he completed in 2001.
After graduating from school, he entered the brotherhood of novices at the Holy Dormition Pochaev Lavra in the Ternopil region, where he lived until 2004.
In 2004, he enrolled in the first year of the Odessa Theological Seminary, from which he graduated in 2008. After Seminary, he continued his studies at the Chernivtsi Theological University.

In 2016, he was ordained to the Holy Diaconate at the Holy Spirit Cathedral in the city of Mukacheve.
On December 22, 2016, he arrived in Canada, where he began his ministry at Christ the Savior Cathedral in the city of Toronto, serving as a cathedral deacon.
On August 24, 2019, he was ordained to the Holy Priesthood at the same cathedral, where he served pastorally until 2024.
Since 2024, he has served as the rector of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Saint George in the city of Grimsby, Ontario.
As of January 1, 2026, with the blessing of His Eminence Metropolitan Ilarion, he has been appointed rector of the Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral of Saint Volodymyr in the city of Windsor, Ontario.
